Wabasha as a community traces its history to the 1830s when Augustin Rocque established a fur trade post. The community grew up around his post and Wabasha was platted in 1854 and incorporated in 1858. Before the turn of the century, lumber and commerce were the main industries in Wabasha. Steamboats moved up and down the Mississippi carrying supplies until the railroad replaced the need for them. The rare American Bald eagle thrives in this area. Their nesting ground is located in Nelson Bottoms, which is directly across from the city of Wabasha. During the late fall, winter, and early spring, it is common to see them soaring and diving for fish in the open water around Wabasha. Wabasha is one of the few remaining true-to-life river towns. It has boating, camping, river recreation, golfing, skiing, and ice fishing. The parks, marinas and historic charm make Wabasha a great place to spend a day, a week or a lifetime.
The City of Kellogg is located in the beautiful Mississippi River Valley along Highway 61. Kellogg is a hunting and fishing hub, surrounded by many beautiful State Parks. These parks are also open to the use for ATVs and horse back riders. The Wabash-Kellogg school district has been highlighted as one of the best by the MN Dept. of Education. Kellogg is also home to the famous Lark Toys, one of the best toy stores in America.
